About Alexa

More Than Just an Alexa
For Seniors

Of course, some of the best Alexa skills for the elderly are available with the SmartCompanion system but employing Alexa’s medical alert capabilities brings a whole new meaning to the term “smart home.”

SmartCompanion Founded by a Caregive

SmartCompanion’s parent company, Veterans Home Care was founded in 2003 by a caregiver Bonnie Laiderman. Bonnie was part of the sandwich generation. She was responsible for her elderly mother and her young children. Eventually Bonnie learned of a little-known VA benefit called “Aid and Attendance” that would cover the cost of her mother Edith’s home care. Sadly, Edith passed away before Bonnie could complete the VA application process. This inspired Bonnie to create a company to meet this need for other seniors and caregivers.

Proudly Owned & Operated in St. Louis, MO

In 2021, expansion prompted a larger headquarters in St. Louis. Cutting the ribbon from left to right: Chief Executive Officer David Laiderman, Vice President of Development, Marcy Seeney, Chief Revenue Officer Evan Kaltman, Founder Bonnie Laiderman, Strategic Development Officer Howard Laiderman and President and Retired Army Brigadier General Larry Kay.
